EI Paper Submission Tips:
Hints to make your way through the submission process as smooth as possible
To start your submission to Economic Inquiry, log into Wiley CONNECT to access the ReX submission system (see link below). When you begin the process, you'll notice there are multiple steps in ‘Your Progress’ that must be completed before your manuscript can be submitted. Most steps are straightforward but below are a few clarifications and suggestions.
- In the Upload Manuscript section, you will see the Main Manuscript must be in either Word or LaTeX. If you are submitting in LaTeX, select LaTeX as the format and then you will see two elements to upload your files: LaTeX File and LaTeX PDF. The system prefers that you submit your full LaTeX stack upon initial submission including any style files, packages, figures and so on, but this is not actually required. All that you need to do is upload a version of your main LaTeX file in the first element and you can then upload your own locally compiled PDF in the second. The system will then use this PDF in creating the file for referees without needing to re-compile your LaTeX document. Later in the process, the system will ask you for all of the files which would accompany the .tex file for full compiling, but you do not need to submit those upon initial submission.
- The submission system is designed to pull identifying information out of the title page. If you have written your paper in Word, you simply need to separate off and upload the first page with author information, including all affiliations, abstract, JEL codes and so on. If you created your document in LaTeX, there is no need to redraft your title page in that format. You can instead simply open the PDF of your document in Adobe, extract out the title page and then you can export this directly into Word format. You can then upload this file as the Title Page.
- You will find two opportunities to upload a Cover Letter during the submission process (in the Upload Manuscript section and Additional Information sections). Please choose one, not both.
- In the Additional Information section, you will find an inquiry about your data availability. Click on the 'use the editor' link located below the Data Sharing textbox and copy and paste which of these situations describes how you intend to comply with our data policy. A data package is not required unless your paper is accepted.
- There is no data analysis conducted in this study and so no replication package will be necessary.
- There are no external data analyzed in this study but we use simulations to create simulated/synthetic data and will provide all code necessary to replicate our analysis prior to publication.
- All data used is publicly available or can be made publicly available and will be provided along with the relevant code prior to publication.
- Some of the data used is publicly available or can be made publicly available while some of the data is confidential and cannot be made public. Prior to publication, the publicly available data will be provided and all scripts and code will be provided explaining how both the public and confidential data have been analyzed. We will also explain the source of the confidential data to the extend possible and how other authors could obtain this data.
- All of the data used in this paper is confidential and cannot be made public. Prior to publication, we will still provide all code demonstrating how the analysis was performed and provide information on the source of the confidential data to the extent possible and how other authors could obtain the data.
- There is data analysis performed in this study, but we do not intend or comply with your data policy. (Please discuss this situation with the editor prior to submitting as all papers are required to comply with our data policy.)
- In the Final Review section, we recommend you Build a Reviewer PDF and include this PDF with your submission. You will have the opportunity to review the PDF before you complete your submission.
Now that you know everything there is to know, if you encounter any issues or have questions during the submission process, we are here to help!
