- Be Brief and to the Point
Referee reports need not be overly lengthy. We ask that you address whether the contribution of the paper is significant enough to warrant publishing in the journal. If it is not sufficient in its current form but you think that it could be improved to the point that it is, please explain what additions or alterations would be necessary to make it suitable for publication. If there are ancillary points you wish to make or questions that the paper brings to your mind, certainly feel free to note them. Where possible, we ask that you separate out core issues that you think must be addressed for the paper to be publishable from secondary points of curiosity.
- AI Use
Submissions to the journal are confidential and should be treated as such. Thus we ask that you not upload any submissions into an AI system as this provides the AI with the intellectual property of the authors. Not all authors wish their IP to be freely given to these systems. We also would prefer to receive your insights about the paper, not those of an AI system. You were invited as a referee due to your expertise and we would hope that your comments are based upon that. It is fine to use AI support in other writing aspects of the report, but we ask you to limit the information given to AI systems to preserve the intellectual property of the authors.
- Conflicts of Interest
EI uses a double-blind referee process and so the authors of the paper will not be identified to you. Should you be familiar with the authors anyway and have a close connection to them, e.g. they are a co-author, advisor, advisee, colleague etc., we ask that you disclose this relationship to the editor.
- No Revisions Submission
If this manuscript has been submitted under our No Revisions policy please see our No Revisions policy statement for more details on how this policy works. Under this policy the editor can only Accept or Reject the paper. We cannot require revisions prior to publishing. Thus we are only asking whether you think the paper is suitable to publish As Is or not. It is possible to request small voluntary edits from authors prior to publication. If there are issues you think must be required to be dealt with prior to publication, then you should recommend rejecting. In any case, referee reports on these submissions need not have lengthy suggestions for the authors about how to improve the paper.
