Summer in Santiago is from December to February, a time of year characterized by hot and dry temperatures ranging from 12 degrees C (53 degrees F) to a high of  34 degrees C (93 degrees F) during the day (with noticeable cooling down at night).  The city enjoys a Mediterranean climate with four well-defined seasons (which are the reverse of those in the Northern Hemisphere).  The weather is comparable to that of central and southern California. Regardless of the season, sunblock is strongly recommended for even the shortest leisurely stroll.
